The Mother City Bids Farewell To The V&A Food Market

There’s a feeling of sadness in the air as the Mother City bids farewell to the very special V&A Food Market. The local fav foodie hub was a total powerhouse of a hangout all year round. It was the go-to hide away during the cold rainy winters, scorching hot summers and everything in between. However, it was recently announced that the market’s lease had not been renewed. This came with loads of disappointment from the foodie fraternity.

The space has now officially closed its doors having operated for the very last time on Sunday, 22nd January. It served up years of delish offerings, good vibes and a solid all round experience, this is a place that will forever remain in the hearts of the Cape Town community. The amazing vendors that traded at this space are currently in search of other premises to call home so be sure to monitor their socials to keep tabs on their whereabouts!

Yes Cape Town foodies are bidding farewell to a legend of the game. However, they are also in for a total treat (pun intended). *Dim the lights, cue the music* The Mother City introduces the internationally acclaimed media and entertainment company…Time Out Market. Boldly spanning across nine thousand square metres with fourteen different kitchens, four bars, over seven hundred seats as well as a stage for live performances, this will be nothing short of amazing.

Operating from the V&A Food Market space itself, this project is set to be one for the books! It brings together the best-of-the-best food and beverage talents in the local game for a flavour explosion you just won’t be able to deny. The concept currently exists in many major cities around the world, such as: New York, Lisbon, Dubai, Miami with many more in the pipeline. Launching late 2023, Cape Town is indeed saying goodbye to a foodie fav but it’s all in the name of the next big culinary thing.
