Outdoor Activities To Enjoy This Summer In Cape Town

Enjoy the upcoming summer season to the max by saying goodbye to awfully high screen times and hello to outdoor activities! It's easy to get caught scrolling through your phone for hours on end or binging episode after episode of the latest Netflix blockbuster. Change things up by spending some time in nature! Fresh air and sunshine can do you so much good - plus it's actually kinda FUN. Here are some cool outdoor activity ideas to try out this Cape Town summer.

1 - Attend a Picnic & Live Music Concert at Kirstenbosch Gardens

Kirstenbosch Live Summer Concerts are back in full swing! Enjoy an awesome lineup of SA's best artists who'll be performing throughout the summer season starting from November this year until April 2023. No matter how many times you've attended a concert here, there's just no ways you can get use to the insanely gorg setting and relaxing atmosphere.

Starting off this summer's series of performances was the one and only Craig Lucas who lit up the stage with fellow musician, Lee Cole on 20th November! Following on from them is an incredible schedule of upcoming shows including Jeremy Loops (27th Nov), Beatenberg and Sean Koch (11th Dec) as well as Neon Dreams, Majozi and Will Linley (26th Dec). Be sure to get your tickets on Web Tickets ASAP.

2 - Rent a Bicycle on the Seapoint Promenade

Get some fresh air and sunshine by heading over to the lovely Seapoint Promenade to enjoy a calm and laidback bike ride. This is such a cute little outing that is perfect for the warmer weather. The best part about this activity is that you don't even need your own bicycle to join in on the fun!

Head over to Up Cycles Bicycle Rental Station on the Seapoint Promenade pay a small fee and a bike will become yours (at least for the given time period). Enjoy the seaside energy, loads of people watching and explore the area completely at your own pace. This is a lovely outdoor activity idea for you and the entire family.

3 - Try Out an Early Morning Cold Water Sea Immersion

Brave the cold and unleash your inner adventurer by trying out a cold water sea immersion. This has become quite the popular activity amongst locals and it's said to bring loads of health benefits! There are numerous locations around the Mother City that make for the perfect cold water immersion experience. Some favourites include: The Camps Bay Tidal Pool, Maiden's Cove (Clifton), the Dalebrook Tidal Pool (False Bay) as well as Small Bay (Blouberg).

Let's be honest, this activity is not for the faint hearted! Getting yourself into that icy ocean water can be a super daunting task. However, there are lots and lots of health benefits which make it totally worth at least an attempt! Fifteen minutes of bravery can do the world's difference.

4 - Have a Beach Day

Cape Town beaches are honestly one of the best places to be when that warm weather kicks in. Pack in some delish snacks as well as your fav novel and spend the day basking in the sun. Being outdoors never sounded better!

Us locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to beachy destinations. Head over to the fan fav collection of Clifton beaches or take a road trip to the penguins by visiting Boulder's Beach. Other great options include: Beta Beach, Bakoven, Fish Hoe Beach, Llandudno and plenty more. Whatever you decide, you're sure to have a super enjoyable day in the outdoors. Yes sure, the ocean water may be a tad on the cold side, but the amazing summer vibes and festive energy will override it all.

5 - Spend Some Time at an Outdoor Market

Getting out in nature while browsing stalls at a local market is always so therapeutic. Bring your furry friends along for a slow-paced day that everyone can enjoy. Summer's arrival means that Cape Town market season is in full swing - be sure to take full advantage.

The Mountain Market located at the Van Riebeeck Park is a perfect place to enjoy a full-on outdoor experience. Sit under the trees and listen to super chilled live music or maybe you decide to take part in an outdoor yoga class. Either way, be sure to end it all off with a yummy brunch from one of the local vendors. There are also some amazing goodies on offer including fresh produce, bakery items, pottery, jewellery and more.

Cape Town summer is coming in hot and we wanna make sure you're living your best life over the next few months! Put away your phone and get out and about because there is just so much to do. Always remember that outdoor living is the best kinda living.
