Disney+ to Launch in South Africa

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Online streaming services have dramatically changed the way the world consumes entertainment. Although Netflix only launched in South Africa in early 2016, it is safe to say that we have quickly caught up on the late night Netflix and chill binging trend (oops). Having hundreds and hundreds of shows at the touch of our fingertips, has honestly become just another part of our daily lives.

However, if you think we are spoilt for choice, things are about to become even more interesting…because believe it or not, global streaming powerhouse, ‘Disney+’ has made the decision to launch its offering in South Africa. On 18th May, the platform will offer its services to us locals along with 42 new countries in the next 5 months. The excitement is real because this means we will have access to tons of new and exclusive content such as movies and series from: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more! We better start clearing our schedules, because soon, the TV will be calling our name like never before.

Things just keep on getting better and better. Did you know that the platform of Disney+ comes along with an oh-so golden feature called the ‘Star Content Hub’? In other wards, we will also get access to content belonging to many of Disney’s partners such as: Hulu, ABC, Hollywood pictures and more! (Cough cough) this will include the Kardashian’s brand new reality show.

In order to acquire the oh-so lovely Disney+ offering, we will be required to pucker up a fee of R119 per month or a yearly subscription of R1190. This bundle caters for four separate streaming devices, unlimited downloads and as many as 7 unique profiles per account. Where can we sign up? (wink wink).
