There are so many restaurants to explore in the Mother City it can actually be overwhelming! With plenty mainstream spots vying for your attention, why not change your approach and go for the roads less travelled? Here are some Cape Town hidden gems - they tick all the boxes but are critically underrated!


1 - Maria's Greek Café


Nestled under the trees at Dunkley Square is the ever-so-charming Maria's Greek Café. This city centre hideout offers a super relaxing setting and an amazing Mediterranean style menu. From a delicious meze offering, homely main meals and real tasty coffee - there is just so much to love. The indoor and outdoor seating options also make this place totally weather proof. Head on over for a little midweek outing or work mission and see exactly what you’ve been missing out on!



2 - Lello's Deli & Espresso Bar


Lello’s Deli & Espresso Bar is a super cute little spot hidden away in the cobblestone streets of De Waterkant. This family-owned establishment sells all kinds of amazing imported goodies including baked goods and a small menu of eats and drinks. Purchase the real deal ingredients all the way from Italy that will elevate any kind of homemade meal. The items on offer range from high quality cheeses, proper pizza dough, European-quality biscuits and way more. Visit this spot for a quick little snack and add some real good stuff to your grocery cart while you’re there.



3 - Bodega Ramen


Ramen connoisseurs of note and critically underrated, is the incredible Bodega Ramen eatery. This local restaurant is hidden away on the second floor of a building that is shared with the Honest Chocolate Cafe. Enter through the cafe itself and make your way to the grand wooden staircase that’ll guide you to the venue. This is a place to enjoy flavour-packed small plates, great cocktails and stellar ramen! The dimmed candle-lit setting and buzzing atmosphere only adds to the fab foodie experience.



4 - How Bao Now


The How Bao Now food stall at the Oranjezicht Market in Granger Bay has quickly attracted a community of die-hard fans, and for out-of-this-world bao buns, it’s completely understandable. Sure, one can enjoy their bao bun magic at the weekend market...however, did you know they also have their very own Bao bar at the Biscuit Mill?! From Wednesday to Saturday from 11am until 4pm - deliciousness is served. Venture to this quaint little foodie haven and allow the feast to begin.
