A Visit To Kamers

Cape Town is home to many crazy talented craftsmen, designers, artists and so the list goes on. With lots of amazing local products and offerings available, we wouldn't be surprised if the whole ‘local is lekker’ slogan originated from the Mother City itself. When we visited the annual Kamers event this weekend, we were reminded once again that simply nothing beats shopping locally sourced and constructed products.

Kamers is a large-scale market that celebrates all types of South African makers from clothing brands, jewelry labels, food and beverage creators, artworks, catering accessories and a whole lot more. It’s an amazing coming together of both shoppers and buyers to create such a wholesome space. It took place on the most picturesque wine estate, Blaauwklippen Estate, in Stellenbosch, from 24 - 29th October and oh wow was it a sight to behold.

The idea of Kamers started way back when two friends decided to start a market in their own backyard. Fast forward to 20 years later and it's now one of the country’s biggest markets and a real highlight of the year for many. It provides the greatest opportunity for smaller businesses to make their mark and spread awareness about what it is that they offer. Similarly, it helps local customers to learn about these amazing artisans that exist on home soil and support them with a purchase or two. With the festive season in full swing, it was a great opportunity for many to get going with some early Xmas gift shopping.

If you weren’t able to visit this fabulous affair this time round, don’t fret because it will be back with a bang with the arrival of the new year. For now, why not pretend you were there in the flesh and head on over to their website and social pages to see all that was on offer. It’s never too late to browse through the wonderful selection of goods. Don't let us remind you...LOCAL is always lekker!
